What is a DNS leak?
Before your browser can connect to any website, it must resolve the domain name into an IP address using a DNS resolver. A DNS leak happens when those lookups bypass your proxy or VPN tunnel and go to your default resolver — usually your home ISP's. The result: your ISP logs every site you visit, and any website comparing your connection's country with your resolver's country sees the mismatch.

How to fix a DNS leak
- Use remote DNS with SOCKS5 proxies — resolve domains through the proxy, not locally.
- Use your VPN's DNS servers — most VPN apps have a "block outside DNS" or "use VPN DNS" option.
- Enable DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) in the browser so lookups are encrypted and pinned to a chosen resolver.
- Per-profile isolation — if you run multiple accounts, every profile should resolve DNS through its own proxy; a shared home resolver is a linkage signal across "separate" accounts.
